Collect wedding guest photos when the venue has poor Wi-Fi

Ask guests to take pictures with their normal camera and upload them once they have a working connection. A QR code opens an address; it does not provide internet. For a venue with poor signal, plan the later upload before you print the sign.

Check the room, not just the venue address

A couple planning a mountain wedding asked how guests could contribute without mobile reception or access to the household Wi-Fi. Ask the same question before choosing your collection method.

Ask the venue whether it has a guest network, whether visitors need a sign-in page and where reception is usable. On a visit, open the actual upload link and send a test photo from the table area. Repeat the test where guests will actually sit.

Make taking photos and uploading separate tasks

Use the phone’s normal camera and check that the picture appears in its photo library. Save the upload link in the message you already use for wedding information. Guests can return to it from home; they do not need to spend dinner troubleshooting a connection.

Treat an upload as unfinished until the page confirms it. If it fails, keep the file on the phone and try again when connected. This plan relies on guests returning and selecting their files; it does not assume an automatic offline upload queue.

Plan the complete photo collection

Copyable wording for a take-home card

Example: “We would love your view of the day. Take your photos as usual, then add your favourites when you have a connection: [album link]. Please keep this card for later. Uploads close on [date]. Thank you!”

Print the address under the QR and include a tappable link in the follow-up message. Replace the date with the actual upload deadline, not the later gallery-deletion date.

Choose a readable QR card

Choose what can wait

If the venue connection is unreliable, arrange a prepared photo selection for the screen or leave the screen off. Fresh guest photos cannot arrive online while those phones are disconnected.

Send one friendly request after guests have travelled home. Keep a way to help anyone who cannot find the link, and let contributing remain optional.

Practical questions

Will a printed QR work without internet?+

A phone may read the printed code, but opening the online page and sending files require a connection. Keep the photos on the phone and use the link later.

Should we share the venue’s private Wi-Fi password?+

Ask the venue or household first. Use an authorised guest network if offered; otherwise give guests a later-upload plan.

Prepare the guest upload link
