Hashtags built on your names
The simplest formula, and still the most common: both first names joined by And, Plus or a verb. Try the names in both orders; one usually reads more smoothly.
#EmmaAndJames · #JamesLovesEmma · #EmmaPlusJames · #EmmaAndJamesSayIDo · #TogetherWithEmmaAndJames · #CheersToEmmaAndJames · #EmmaJamesForever · #EmJamWedding
Hashtags that play on the surname
If you share a surname, or one of you is taking the other's, this is where the memorable hashtags come from: rhymes, sound-alikes and famous phrases with the name dropped in. Check before you use a married name that the person is actually changing theirs.
#HappilyEverHarper · #MeetTheMillers · #ItsMillerTime · #BestDayEverett · #ToHaveAndToHolden · #AllsWellThatEndsWells · #YoungAndInLove · #WeddingBellsForTheBells · #TyingTheKnott · #FinallyAFox
Funny wedding hashtags
Funny works when the joke is about the two of you: how you met, how long the engagement took, a running joke your friends will recognise. Jokes about marriage being the end of freedom tend to age badly in the photos.
#FinallyTyingTheKnot · #WorthTheWait · #SwipedRightForLife · #NoTakeBacks · #StuckWithEachOther · #TheyDidAThing · #OfficiallyOffTheMarket · #EmmaPutARingOnIt · #NoLongerAPlusOne · #TenYearsInTheMaking
Short and simple hashtags
Short hashtags fit on a table card and are hard to misspell. Initials with the year, or one blended name, work well. They are also the most likely to be taken already, so these need checking more than any others.
#EJ2026 · #EandJWed · #EmJam26 · #TheWalkers26 · #WalkerWed · #EJSayIDo · #EJForever · #WalkerWedding2026
Hashtags with the place or the date
Adding where or when solves the uniqueness problem in one go and turns the hashtag into a souvenir. It is the obvious choice for a destination wedding.
#EmmaAndJamesInTuscany · #TheWalkersTakeLisbon · #MarriedInMallorca26 · #LoveInLondonEJ · #EJ12June · #JamesAndEmmaDoNashville · #SeasideWalkers2026 · #EmmaAndJames061226
Romantic wedding hashtags
If puns aren't you, keep the names and add a phrase you'd happily see on a card.
#EmmaAndJamesForever · #AlwaysEmmaAndJames · #HappilyEverEmmaAndJames · #TwoHeartsOneWalker · #EJLoveStory · #OurWalkerStory · #TheBeginningOfTheWalkers · #JamesFoundHisEmma
Two checks before you print it
Search it. Type the hashtag into Instagram and TikTok. If another couple's photos come up, add your year, your city or an initial until nothing does. This is the step people skip, and the reason so many wedding hashtags end up mixed with a stranger's wedding.
Read it in lowercase. Hashtags ignore capital letters, and most guests will type it in lowercase. Capitals make it readable on a sign, but write it out in lowercase once to make sure the letters don't spell out a word you didn't mean.
Where to put it, and what it won't do
A hashtag only works if guests see it: on the save-the-date, the wedding website, a sign at the entrance, the table cards and the bar. Use the same spelling everywhere.
It will gather the photos guests post publicly. It won't gather the rest: posts from private accounts don't appear under a hashtag, stories disappear after a day, and most of the best photos from a wedding never get posted at all. If you want those too, give guests a QR code to a shared album as well. With JoinAlbum they upload photos and videos from their phone browser, typing only their name, into an album that stays private until you decide otherwise. It's free for up to 10 files and €49 once for unlimited uploads.
Wedding hashtag FAQs
How do we come up with a wedding hashtag?+
Start with both first names or your shared surname, then add a word, a pun, the year or the place. Write down five, search each one and keep the one nobody else is using.
Should our wedding hashtag include the year?+
If your names are common, yes: it's the easiest way to make the tag yours. If a search shows your hashtag is free without it, leave it out and keep it short.
Do wedding hashtags need capital letters?+
No. Hashtags work the same in any case. Capitals only make them easier to read, which matters on a printed sign.
Can we use a hashtag another couple already used?+
Nothing stops you, but their photos and yours will appear together under it. Add a year, an initial or the city to keep yours separate.
Will a hashtag collect all our wedding photos?+
No. It only shows public posts. Private accounts, stories that have expired and photos people never post are all missing. A shared album with a QR code collects those as well.
